Delivering Relief for Our Community: Fuel Tax Holiday

As your Member of Parliament, I know that many families and small businesses in our community are feeling the pinch of rising costs. Whether it’s commuting or the cost of moving goods, the price at the pump impacts everyone’s bottom line.

The global landscape is changing quickly. While we cannot control international conflicts or supply chain disruptions in the Middle East, we can take direct action here at home. Our government is focused on building a more resilient and independent economy—one where Nova Scotians feel more secure and certain about their future.

Immediate Action to Lower Costs

Today, the Prime Minister announced a significant step to provide immediate relief: the temporary suspension of the federal Fuel Excise Tax on gasoline and diesel.

Starting April 20, 2026, and continuing through September 7, 2026, this tax will be fully suspended. For families in our riding, this is expected to reduce costs by:

  • 10 cents per litre on regular gasoline
  • 4 cents per litre on diesel

We are also temporarily suspending the federal Fuel Excise Tax on aviation fuels to help stabilize the broader transportation and travel sectors.

Support for Our Local Economy

Cutting these costs through the summer months is a responsible measure designed to support the backbone of our economy. By reducing operating costs for truckers and businesses in the food, agriculture, and construction sectors, we are helping local employers stay strong, hire more workers, and keep prices lower for consumers.

Building for the Long Term

While this tax suspension provides the immediate relief we need right now, we remain focused on the long-term energy security of our province. We are advancing major projects in electricity, LNG, and nuclear power to ensure all Canadians have access to clean, reliable, and affordable energy.

My priority has always been delivering results for the people of Sackville—Bedford—Preston. From cutting taxes for 22 million Canadians to protecting vital social programs, we are moving with speed to ensure our community remains a place where everyone has the opportunity to prosper.

If you have questions about how these changes affect you or your business, please don’t hesitate to reach out to my constituency office.
