June is Italian Heritage Month in Canada, a time to celebrate the rich history, culture, and contributions of Italian Canadians.
With more than 1.5 million Canadians claiming Italian ancestry, Canada is home to one of the largest Italian diasporas in the world. Throughout the month, communities across the country come together to recognize the lasting impact Italian Canadians have had on Canada’s social, cultural, economic, and political life.
Italian Heritage Month also coincides with Festa della Repubblica, Republic Day, on June 2, Italy’s National Day. In 2026, Italians around the world mark the 80th anniversary of the 1946 referendum that led to the establishment of the Italian Republic, a pivotal moment in the country’s modern history and democratic development.
This month is an opportunity to celebrate Italian Canadian communities, including right here in our region, and recognize the generations of hard work, leadership, entrepreneurship, and community service that continue to shape Canada.
Happy Italian Heritage Month! Buon Mese del patrimonio italiano!
