Recognizing Canadian Jewish Heritage Month

May marks Canadian Jewish Heritage Month, a time dedicated annually to the celebration of Jewish culture, faith, and history in Canada.

Canada is home to the fourth-largest Jewish community in the world. Jewish Canadians have made important contributions in virtually every sector, including medicine, theatre, engineering, music, architecture, academia, politics, law, the arts, and more.

We also acknowledge the widespread persecution of Jewish people, including the horrors of the Holocaust, and the adversities faced by members of the Jewish community that led many to seek safety in Canada.

Especially during these uncertain times, Jewish Heritage Month presents an opportunity for us all to reaffirm our solidarity with Jewish Canadians and stand together against antisemitism, whenever and wherever it occurs.

I encourage everyone to reflect on and explore the inspirational role that Jewish Canadians have played and continue to play across the country.
