Statement on Incident of Hate and Extremism in Our Community

Canada prides itself on being a country where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected.

The presence of a group displaying symbols and messages associated with hate and extremism in our community this weekend is deeply concerning. Hate, whether direct or implied, has no place in Sackville–Bedford–Preston, Nova Scotia, or anywhere in Canada.

At a time when many Canadians are concerned by rising incidents of antisemitism, Islamophobia, homophobia, and other forms of hate, public displays associated with racist, extremist, or white nationalist ideology can leave people feeling targeted, unwelcome, and unsafe.

Sackville–Bedford–Preston is stronger because of the diversity of the people who call it home, and we will continue working to make sure everyone feels safe, valued, and respected.
