Canadian Dental Care Plan Renewal Now Underway

The renewal period for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) for the 2026–2027 benefit year is now underway and runs until June 1, 2026.
Constituents who are currently covered under the CDCP must renew their coverage during this period to maintain uninterrupted access to dental care.

The CDCP is a federally delivered public program designed to make oral health care more affordable and accessible for eligible Canadians. Since its launch, over 6 million Canadians are now covered, and more than 4 million have already received care, saving an average of $900 annually on dental costs.

All CDCP members are required to renew their coverage every year to confirm they continue to meet eligibility requirements.

Important Dates

  • Renewal Period: Renewals for the 2026–2027 benefit year must be completed between April 15 and June 1, 2026.
  • Renewal Deadline: Members must renew before June 1, 2026.
  • End of Current coverage (2025-2026): Coverage for the 2025-2026 benefit year ends on June 30, 2026.

Members who do not renew by June 1, 2026, will lose coverage when the current benefit year ends on June 30, 2026, and will experience a gap in coverage.

Dental services received during a gap in coverage will not be covered or reimbursed retroactively.

Members who miss the June 1 renewal deadline must reapply as new applicants once the 2026–2027 application period opens. However, coverage will not restart until their new application is approved.

Renewal Requirements

To renew their CDCP coverage, existing members must:

  • Have filed their 2025 income tax return; and
  • Have received their 2025 Notice of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

As part of the renewal process, members must re-attest that they:

  • Do not have access to private dental insurance;
  • Have a household income below $90,000, based on their most recent tax information (and that of their spouse or partner, if applicable); and
  • Meet Canadian residency requirements.

How to Renew

Renewal is straightforward and can be completed through the following channels:

Service Canada will issue renewal invitations to current members outlining required steps and timelines, and updated guidance will be available on Canada.ca/dental.
