At a time of global uncertainty, volatile energy costs, and growing demand for electricity, the Government of Canada is taking action to make energy more affordable, reliable, and secure for Canadians.
To help keep bills affordable, the federal government is expanding the Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program to Nova Scotia, Quebec, British Columbia, and Prince Edward Island, building on the existing partnership with Manitoba.
This program will help low- and median-income homeowners and renters retrofit their homes at no up-front cost. These retrofits can include heat pumps, better insulation, improved air sealing, and other upgrades that help households use less energy.
Through this expansion, more than $500 million in funding, including $300 million from the federal government, will help over 35,000 households reduce their energy bills and lower emissions.
Participants are expected to save between $300 and $1,700 annually on energy costs, while reducing their household emissions by about 1.5 tonnes each year.
Energy efficiency is one of the fastest, most practical, and cost-effective ways to meet today’s energy challenges. By helping Canadians use less energy at home, we can put money back in people’s pockets, take pressure off our energy systems, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and strengthen Canada’s energy security.
This is about helping families lower their monthly bills, making homes more comfortable, and building a cleaner, more reliable energy future for communities across Nova Scotia and Canada.
