Our government has announced the upcoming launch of the $1 billion Food-Link Fund to strengthen food distribution, support local producers and improve access to affordable, Canadian-grown food.
Organizations can submit an Expression of Interest from October 14 to December 11, 2026.
Families need fresh, nutritious food at prices they can afford. Helping producers bring their products to market and giving independent grocers more options to stock their shelves are practical steps toward a more competitive food system.
The Fund will support projects through two streams:
- Food Terminal Fund: Building or expanding major wholesale food terminals, where farmers and food businesses can sell their products and independent grocers can source food.
- Food Hub Program: Investing in regional facilities, equipment and logistics that help local producers store, process and distribute their products.
For producers here in Nova Scotia, better connections to markets can create more opportunities to sell locally grown food. For families, a stronger distribution network can help support greater choice and more affordable options at the grocery store.
The Food-Link Fund is part of Canada’s first National Food Security Strategy, backed by $3.2 billion over 10 years to strengthen domestic food production and build a more reliable, affordable food system.
Organizations interested in the Fund will first submit an Expression of Interest. Those whose projects align with its objectives will be invited to submit a full proposal.
